Under the wise leadership of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces issued resolution no. 83 of 2007 concerning implementation of health insurance for UAE Nationals and those of similar status.

Launched by Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD) in May 2008 as part of the implementation of the Health Insurance Law and its regulations, the program grants all UAE Nationals and those of similar status healthcare coverage through a comprehensive network of healthcare providers.

The National Health Insurance Company – Daman was assigned  to manage this prestigious programme named “thiqa”.
