thiqa (in Arabic means "trust") program for UAE Nationals was launched by the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD) in May 2008 as part of the implementation of the Health Insurance Law and its regulations.

More than 588,000 UAE Nationals have so far enrolled under the scheme.

thiqa is managed by the National Health Insurance Company – Daman.
