The Thiqa initiative

In 2007, under the wise leadership of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces issued Resolution 83 of 2007 directing the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD) to launch an initiative offering health insurance for UAE nationals and those of similar status.

This initiative, named Thiqa, the Arabic word for “trust”, was to be delivered through a comprehensive network of partner providers. The National Health Insurance Company - Daman was nominated to manage this prestigious program on behalf of the Government of Abu Dhabi.
